To All 2012 Cross Timbers Trail Run Participants,
Wow! What a great run we had this past Saturday!
Runners from ten states participated in the 2012 Cross Timbers Trail Runs at Lake Texoma on February 18. A record turnout, over 340 trail runners, took on one of the most challenging trail runs in Texas.
Participant ages ranged from seven-seventy-four. We had several entire families participating as well!
The 31st year(oldest trail run in Texas) of the race saw rainy conditions which made the trail wet, muddy and resulted in slower times.
The 50 mile race was won by two Dallas residents, David Renfro for the men in 9:54:35 and Francesca Bissman for the women in 10:46:00. Raymond Brintle of Crowley and Kristi Wynne of Euless won the marathon for men and women in 3:40:02 and 5:31:36 respectively. The half marathon winners were Chris Mcclure of Oklahoma City for the men in 2:12:01 and Christina Hughes Babb of Dallas for the women in 2:49:31. And in the 5 mile race, male and female winners were Tommy Swanson of Krum in 44:15 and Christina Urbanski of Plano in 1:02:24.
Complete results are posted on our website and active.com
Thank you to all the runners. You should all feel proud of your accomplishment especially after running in such tough conditions. There was plenty of mud, sweat, blood and a few tears along the way. Your determination and spirit are truly an inspiration.
There was lots of work that went on behind the scenes and I need to say a big thank you to all the volunteers who helped make the run such a success.
I must acknowledge a few folks who made significant contributions with their time and energy.
Thanks to Larry Flies for ALL the work on the trail. Some of you may not know, but Larry walked the trail with his leaf blower a couple weeks prior to the run to clear the way for a better run. Larry also has a great aide station!
Thanks to Roger Hale for his work in marking the trail, for the informative briefings before each run.
Roger Hale and Larry Fleas did a great job at marking the trails. Thanks guys!
A huge THANK YOU to the timing team Roger and Corinne Hale, Tony Smith, Xochitl Gonzales, Carly and Luke Gullett and Celeste Walz for recording the times.
Thanks to Laurie Underwood for organizing the volunteers, her support and also running a great aide station, clean-up at finish line and cleaning the trail on Sunday. She and her team did a nice job helping the runners.
Thanks to Dave Hanenburg for helping at the finish line and running the last 10 miles with the final finisher on the 50 miler. I know your support was greatly appreciated.
Linda Boggs and George Kemp made sure they placed the CTTR signs to direct you to the location as well as registration and helping at the Cedar Bayou aide station.
Also, Jim Lane captained the PawPaw Creek aide station as well as helping with set-up and the pasta pre-race dinner.
Claire and Dave Balling with Texoma Hideaway for captaining the Cedar Bayou Marina aide station.
Team United Way from Grayson County(Dave Cortinas) played a big role by bringing several volunteers.
Our photographer Celeste Walz for braving the rain to make sure she captured those special moments. She will be posting those special moments soon for you to view and order!
My daughter Jessica McCoul for making sure the aide stations were fully stocked at all time.
Our clean-up crew on Sunday: Larry Fleas, Celeste Walz, Jim Lane, Tony Smith, Jessica, Brian and Luke Baldwin, Roger, Xochitl, Lauren (and husband),
Hale, Laurie Underwood, Robert and James Umpleby THANKS!
Last but not least, thanks to Antje Spethmann, Brandon Herkert, Doug Myers, Mark Stidham and Brian Baldwin.
Antje, thanks for your work as our chef. She and her team did a terrific job serving up burgers, hot dogs, potato soup and desserts....her famous potato soup is delicious!
There are plenty of other volunteers who really made my job as race director easier and I appreciate each and every one of you! You know who you are.... So THANK YOU!
Thank you all for the feedback I have received on things we did well and some things we can do better. Keep those emails coming! If you think of anything later, feel free to let me know. We’ll take your ideas and suggestions to heart and plan to make next year even better. As a matter of fact, we are already in the planning stages for next year.
We’ll keep you posted on training runs and hikes we’ll have this spring.
Thanks again to everyone for participating by either running, volunteering or showing your support!
So, in my opinion Cross Timbers is the "Toughest Little Trail in Texas"
Happy Trails!

I want to personally commend you on a great little jewel of a race you put on at Cross Timbers. I love everything about that race, from the tough trail to the finisher awards.
You do an exceptional job. I also want to thank all of your volunteers. I tried to thank all of them when I passed through an aid station or picked up a hamburger. I always want to participate either running or volunteering.
Thanks again. BTW...i have a short race report and pics at my blog.
